RONALD VAN DER KEMP NODS TO THE DOMINATRIX FOR COUTURE SS20

’80s glamour was at the forefront of RONALD VAN DER KEMP’s SS20 couture collection. With bold shoulders, bright monochromatic looks and petite waistlines the latest collection from the dutch couturier offered a vast array of luxurious and sensual narratives. Accentuated shoulders reigned supreme; models wore bold black and red lipstick which underlined the nod to the dominatrix, seen in the clothes through glossy leather and rope detailing in the same colour scheme.

It appeared as though each look had its new story to tell and its own mood board, which gave the collection variety but took away the feeling of it having a shared agenda and purpose. The appliqué horse jacket with fur, matched with jeans and boots exemplifies this argument, where the previous look was a structured royal blue evening gown with razor-sharp detailing from the bust up to the neckline, suitable for royalty or award season.

The collection felt sexy and sensual, consisting of strong looks in black and white, mixed with surprise visits from blood-red detailing and metallic accents. The Ronald van der Kemp SS20 couture collection was undeniably made for strong women that demand space, which could be seen in the outrageously beautiful and voluptuous ensembles with floral appliqué. The pièce de résistance this season was not the overtly bold and bright pieces of the collection, nor the wild shoulders or gowns, but the minimalist black cigarette trousers paired with the open front black on white waterfall jacket, it was simplicity and luxury all wrapped in one.
