For AW21, Michael Halpern tapped into life pre-covid, when tokens of glamour were used to elevate the most mundane days to new heights. This season, Halpern looked to the discotheques for inspiration. So many trends start on the dancefloor and Halpern proves this exact point by giving the audience gold lamé, sequin intarsia and diamanté braziers. Jumpsuits a la David Bowie and full-leopard ensembles a la Debbie Harry stole the spotlight this season because it is so far away from what everyone is wearing at this moment in time.
However, Halpern’s approach this season is effective. The hunger for glamour and glitz is in the air and this collection does quench the thirst for long nights under the disco ball. The collection was set primarily in shades of red and white, with sequins taking centre stage quite literally this season. Halpern’s ongoing collaboration with Christian Louboutin also continues for AW21, with suede knee-high frill boots and stiletto sandals. The highlight of this season was undoubtedly the ultra-mini dresses that we haven’t seen in a while because they remind us just how much the world needs a good night out.
